A different operating model

The autonomous enterprise is not a sci-fi pitch. It is a question: if AI can handle the coordination work that currently consumes most of the org's nervous system — status updates, dependency chasing, escalation routing, report generation — what should humans actually be doing?

The answer is: judgment. Direction. Trust. The parts of leadership that don't compress into a workflow.

The reason this is Phase 4 rather than Phase 1 is that you can't build autonomous coordination on top of a fragmented data layer. The earlier modules exist to make this possible. By 2027, the substrate is mature enough that agents can act on it safely.

What stops this from going wrong?

Phase 1–3 build the auditable substrate. Every agent action traces back to an OKR, a meeting, a decision. The boring discipline of phases 1–3 is what makes phase 4 safe.
